Analytical Designer: Multiple Date Attributes in Insights

To help you analyze your data in more detail, we are extending the possibility to work with multiple date attributes and dimensions in a single insight to the following insight types:

  • Column chart
  • Bar chart
  • Line chart
  • Stacked area chart
  • Bullet chart
  • Treemap

Analytical Designer: Select Attribute Labels

From this release, Analytical Designer allows you to select which attribute label to use to display attribute values in your insight.
For example, if the attribute Product has labels Product Name and Product ID defined in your logical data model, you can now select in the Display as drop-down menu which one will be used in the insight.

You can also change attribute labels in Dashboards (Free, Growth) and KPI Dashboards (Enterprise) in the attribute filter configuration.

Direct Data Distribution from Microsoft Azure Blob Storage

Automated Data Distribution v2 (ADD v2) can now load data directly from your Microsoft Azure Blob storage into one or multiple GoodData workspaces.

Provide the data as CSV or Parquet files, set up a connection between your Azure Blob Storage account and your workspace, and configure a frequency of data load and distribution.

Validating Your Logical Data Model

When you are working on your logical data model (LDM), the LDM Modeler now validates it as you are making changes and warns you if there is an issue (for example, an empty dataset or a dataset with a missing title). This helps you build a more robust LDM.

Object Renaming Utility: New Component of Data Preparation and Distribution Pipeline

We have released Object Renaming Utility, a new component of our data preparation and distribution pipeline.

Object Renaming Utility allows you to batch-rename and/or hide metadata objects (facts, attributes, datasets, and so on) in one or more workspaces based on the criteria that you have defined. With this component, you can hide certain parts of the solution from some of your users or offer your users the benefits of custom fields in the logical data model while keeping the model consistent and manageable across all your workspaces.

NOTE: If you have been using a version of Object Renaming Utility deployed from the GoodData Services Appstore, we recommend that you migrate from your version to the newly released Object Renaming Utility, which is kept up-to-date automatically.

Apply Single Number Format to Measures in XLSX Files

When exporting your report/insight to an XLSX file, you can now apply a single number format to all the cells containing metrics/measures in the result XLSX file and overwrite their original number formats.

By default, when a report/insight is exported to XLSX, the number formats applied to the cells containing metrics/measures are propagated to the result XLSX file exactly as defined in the report/insight. For example, if some metrics/measures in a report/insight have a number format that displays negative numbers in red and positive numbers in green, this format will be applied to the cells with these metrics/measures in the XLSX file.

To apply a single number format to all the cells that contain metrics/measures in the result XLSX file, set the exporter.tabularExport.fixedExcelFormat platform setting to the desired number format (for example, #,###.00). This can help you prevent issues related to the figures in the report/insight being displayed incorrectly when you open the XLSX file in a spreadsheet application that may not be able to interpret custom number formats properly.

GoodData.UI Version 8.5 Available: Support for New GoodData.CN Features, Attribute Filter Button Component, and Parent-Child Filtering

We have released Version 8.5 of GoodData.UI, our powerful library for building analytical applications powered by GoodData.

What's new in GoodData.UI Version 8.5

  • Support for new GoodData.CN features
Version 8.5 introduces support for the following new features of GoodData Cloud Native (GoodData.CN):
    • Data sampling that allows you to quickly determine the viability of a particular insight by processing only a percentage of the total available rows in the associated datasets instead of processing all of the data. For more information, see Data Sampling.
    • The APPROXIMATE_COUNT function that returns the approximate number of unique values for an attribute. The returned value is a statistical estimate and not an exact figure. For more information, see APPROXIMATE_COUNT.

These features are available in GoodData.CN Version 1.2 and supported only for Vertica. For more information about integration of GoodData.UI and GoodData.CN, see this article.
  • Attribute Filter Button component
The Attribute Filter Button component allows you to implement an attribute filter with a dropdown that lists attribute values. For more information, see Attribute Filter Button.

  • Parent-child filtering
The Attribute Filter component now allows you to set up a parent-child relationship between two attribute filters. For more information, see Attribute Filter.
NOTE: This feature is also available in the Attribute Filter Button component.

REMINDER: Upgrade Your GoodData.UI to Version 8.x

Version 7.x of GoodData.UI reached its end-of-development, and it is now in maintenance mode until March 31, 2022, when it will reach its end-of-support. The versions older than Version 7.x are no longer supported.

How does it affect you?
You are affected if you are using a version of GoodData.UI older than Version 8.x.

ACTION REQUIRED!
Upgrade your GoodData.UI to Version 8.x. We recommend that you do so as soon as possible.

  1. Review the breaking changes in Version 8.0.
  2. Follow our step-by-step Migration Guide that will walk you through the migration process.

What will happen if you do not upgrade to Version 8.x?
When Version 7.x reaches its end-of-support, it will receive neither new features nor bug fixes. No technical support will be provided. Although the version will still be available for use, we do not recommend that you use it.

To learn more about how different versions of GoodData.UI go through the life cycle phases and what level of support you can expect when using a specific version, see Supported Versions.

REMINDER: End-of-Support of Internet Explorer 11

GoodData is announcing the end-of-support of Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 effective November 19, 2021.

How does it affect you?
You are affected if you are using Internet Explorer 11 for accessing the GoodData Portal.

ACTION REQUIRED!
In preparation for the end-of-support, switch to one of our supported browsers, such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox.

What will happen if you still use Internet Explorer 11 after November 19, 2021?
After this date, you will no longer be able to use the following:

Support for the following components will continue:

Major GoodData.UI versions released after this date will not support Internet Explorer 11.

Learn more:
See the list of supported browsers in System Requirements and Supported Browsers.

REMINDER: Use TLS Version 1.2 or Higher Only

Support for Transport Layer Security (TLS) version 1.0 and 1.1 is deprecated and will end in one of future releases. We will announce the exact date as soon as it is set.

How will this affect you?
All modern web browsers and programming languages already support the newer versions of TLS (1.2 and higher). Unless you use obsolete software or unsupported systems, you are not affected.

You may be affected if you are using an older version of the libraries or programming languages in your tools. To verify, check the documentation for your tool:

ACTION REQUIRED!
Make sure that all your components and integrations use TLS version 1.2 or higher.

What will happen if you do not upgrade to the newer versions?
When support for TLS version 1.0 and 1.1 ends, if you do not switch to a newer version of TLS, the integration with the GoodData platform will stop working.
