Bar chart plus line chart

Hi,

I saw that in "Marketing Analytics" Demo Project there is a report that is composed by a line chart plus an area chart. The type of this chart is "Custom Chart".

I need to build a new char composed by a bar chart plus a line chart. How I can do that? Can I use two differents Y-Axis ? (One with values for the bar chart and one for the values of the line chart)

Thank you in advance.

Hi Lorenzo,

Yes, to create a combo chart, it's necessary to have at least two metrics, one measured on the primary axis, and the second measured on the secondary axis.

For each axis, you can define a chart type, and in this way you can have a combo bar/line chart. Details on how to configure this in your reports can be found here:

Ray, is it possible on a Combo Chart to show two metrics "side by side" while a third metric on a separate Axis? For example we have this report now which is stacking last year (STR [CE LY]) behind this year (STR [CE TY]). The customer would like to show them side by side for each month, while still having the green/red trend line on a separate axis. Please advise.

Hi Jim,

I'm sorry about this problem. This is a known issue that affects a combo chart with two series of bars and one secondary series as a line. We are aware of this and are working to solve this problem, but the nature of this has proven trickier and more complex than it should be, so I can't give a reliable fix date at this point. I will post back here with any new developments. Many apologies for this problem.

How about a stacked bar plus line chart? Really helpful when looking at w/w forecast vs plan.

Hi All,

Do you know if there is any update on this 'issue'?

Both side-by-side bar charts and stacked bar chart. while using a custom chart, are really necessary to get full value out of this feature.

Hi Andrew,

In the current report editor, the custom chart type currently allows two scales (primary and secondary) on either the x or y axis. Up to 20 metrics can be added and assigned one of the two scales. It currently supports multiple overlaid lines and a bar, but not 'side-by-side' or 'stacked' bars at the same time as the line(s), per your note. 'Side-by-side' and 'stacked' bars are currently only supported in the bar/stacked bar chart types, with a single scale.

We understand the value of 'side-by-side' or 'stacked' bars overlaid with a line and I have continued to hear about good use cases for this chart type. It isn't planned for the report editor, but it is a chart type we want to support in the new Analytical Designer.  We are continuing to prioritize releasing the most valuable chart types in the Analytical Designer and will communicate on our product roadmap and when this specific configuration will be possible.
